One Movie….One Book
To improve our children’s mental health and knowledge, Snehwan has created a library that hosts 2500 books spanning various subjects. We also implement some special programs that encourage children to read, as well as enjoy themselves.
Every week, children are shown a movie that has a moral, but there is a catch! It is mandatory to read a book for those who want to watch the movie. This exercise has not only greatly increased reading among the children, but has also inspired many of them to keep diaries and even write poems.
Inspirational Visit
Our children are not only inspired to look for great dreams, but are also made aware of the hard work they need to fulfill them. We invite inspiring personalities at Snehwan to guide children and teach them that a common man can pull off great achievements through hard work.
Computer Knowledge
Our children are trained to use computers so that they can connect to the modern world and open new doors for them. They are given lessons on Power Point, Excel, typing in Marathi, sending e-mails, net surfing, and much more.
Art & Craft
Our children are taught the skills of thread greeting, collage greeting, rituals, etc. Along with having fun, this handicraft education enables them to be tidier in their activities and increases their concentration capacity.
Educational Tour
We organize educational and fun tours for our children every 3 to 4 months. We also arrange industrial visits so that they can learn about small businesses. Till today, our children have been to many forts, different companies, various small industries and colleges.
Rigan (Circle)
This activity aims to increase the confidence of our children by encouraging them to share their thoughts and ideas. Group discussions are carried out with all the children seated in a circle. Each child is given a chance to stand in front of the group and speak for two minutes on a book he/she has read.
Sometimes, a particular subject is given for everyone to express their spontaneous opinion about it. Doing so results in increasing the confidence and creativity of the children, simultaneously reducing their sense of shyness.
Teaching of Social Responsibility
We want our children to become responsible citizens of the society. To this end, we take special efforts to inculcate a feeling of social commitment and support for the needs of community in their minds.
At Snehwan, each child takes care of his/her friends and helps them with their work. Along with many skills, our children are taught the importance of labor and how to become knowledgeable and accountable. We celebrate Rakshabandhan; wherein the children create and sell rakhis, and buy new clothes for sisters/girls from their own money. Thus, this program has greatly increased the social awareness and progress of our children.
Live Together, Eat Together
We believe in the iconic verse from our National Pledge – ‘All Indians are my brothers and sisters.’ All the children are considered as a part of family that stays happily at Snehwan. Ashok, Archana, and all the children make sure to eat together to encourage love, affection, and nurturing.
Lessons in Music
At Snehwan, we recognize the importance of recreational activities in children’s lives. Ashok’s father, along with one other teacher, gives music lessons to our children. As a result, many of them have become fond of music forms such as Bhavgeets, Abhangas, Goulans and also present them on stage. The children are also given lessons in tabla and harmonium.
